I have a5000 that will not agitate. It will fill and drain . The agitator is not stuck and the belts are in good shape. I get no humming or any other sound out of it when it is supposed to agitate. This makes me think the motor is not getting a command to to run...I have made several assumptions that may be incorrect.

I assume the lid switch is good because it spins...
I assume the motor is good because it spins...
The transmission turns freely clockwise and the belts show no sign of wear or smoking so I assume the transmission is good.

Please help.

P.S. If all you have to say is I had the same problem and I bought a new washer...no need for you to respond.

Yes, lid switch is ok and motor is likely ok. You may have a problem in the water level system. There is an air dome on the side of the outer tub that has a tube that goes from it to a pressure switch behind the control panel. As the water level rises in the tub, air pressure will activate the switch which turns off the water inlet valves and turns on agitation. Since your water is shutting off, the switch is activating but the contacts may be faulty. You can jump out the switch but I do not have a wiring diagram for that washer, I can help further if you provide a clear photo of the diagram. Standard color code for later models are white (or gray), yellow and brown. Jump the white (or gray) to yellow to bypass contacts for agitation.

OK thanks. I will check it next week and get back to you. If I can't figure the switch out I will post a clear photo of the control panel.

Thanks Fairbanks !

The yellow wire to the agitation switch was broken off at the connector. Replaced connector and washer works good. I didn't even have to buy anything !
