Just acquired a Cabrio which doesn't agitate. During C1 it doesn't stop filling up. Afterwards, with water just covering the agitator, C2 - C5 was initiated and the agitator moved twice, stopped, and set "OL" code. With adequate water in tub, the basket can be pushed down only 1/16 in. It appears to not float adequately. Planning to pull the basket to inspect for corrosion on shaft and then inspect the suspension rods. Also found two 1 in. long radial cracks on the stator. Got any suggestions? Thanks.

Cabrio's, like a lot of Whirlpool's with electronics are almost impossible to diagnose. And given that you have the cracks on the stator and I assume you bought this used I suggest you try and go back to the seller and get him or her to take it back. That might be difficult and I hope you did not pay too much for it.

If you need to buy used I suggest a nice basic Whirlpool top loader, one that does not have any electronics and has the Whirlpool direct drive technology that has been around for almost 3 decades. If it does develop a problem the repair is usually quick, easy and inexpensive.

Thanks for the advice. As it turned out, the basket was frozen to the shaft with dirt and rust, apparently collected through the years. After considerable effort in dislodging the basket, I cleaned up the shaft and the basket bushing surface using WD-40, emory cloth, and Simple Green, then applied some Antiseize. It all works well now - no parts needed, just labor. I even got the washer for free! (Will keep an eye out for future stator issues as well as possible shaft seal leakage.)

Wow, that's great, glad that was all it takes. You can see the limits in a Forum like this where we are not present to see the machine, so thanks for posting so that we who respond and others who post can learn from this.

Good luck.
