I recently installed a used ice maker into my Kenmore freezer. The ice maker is from an older Kenmore and it works. The problem I am having is when I turn the water on at the valve to feed the icemaker... the water just keeps pooring on in and doesnt stop and obviously overfills the ice maker and goes all over the freezer. am I missing a part or something? There is the coupler that goes through the back wall of the freezer. On one end connects the water line... on the inside (other end) there is a metal sleeve that fits over the coupler or nipple and rests inside the end of the ice maker. What to do? Thanks in advance! Phil

Sounds like a faulty water inlet valve or lack thereof; the water supply tube should connect to this valve underneath the fridge at the rear which allows water to flow up to the tube that feeds the icemaker after it goes thru it's harvest mode... Also, if it was my fridge I'd make sure this model ice maker is compatible, Kenmore (sold by Sears) is only a brand name, appliance mfrs make the appliance and then Sears puts their Kenmore name on it. cheers

You are absolutely right. There is nothing at the bottom of the fridge. Is this valve something I can buy on its own fairly inexpensively? As far as the model of ice maker, it seems to work (it made ice with the water that was in the tray and ejected it when it was ready).

Sure, just input your fridge model number to APPros 'find parts' link and look for the water inlet valve or just call them up... This is an inexpensive part; double check under the rear of the fridge for a 2-prong plug that will energize the valve when necessary... Facing the rear it should be on the right side and don't forget to put the all-important cover back on the rear of the fridge when you have this valve installed... If the cover is missing then make one out of cardboard to cover the compressor area.. The valve will have 1 or 2 screws that mount it underneath and more than likely these are missing too so you'll have that issue to contend with as well... Cheers:o
