I got e-mail saying I was registered and though I had sumitted guestion, but am doing again. The heat element will not come on, have tested with ohm meter and shows good and there are no breaks in heat wire. when first ckecked found belt off of motor pulley and with it off start switch woud not work. Once put belt on motor drive start switch worked and motor ran and tub turned, as there is a breaker that the belt tension pulley must engage. But, when checked start switch with ohm meter showed no good. Rechecked and wires from start switch shows one(1) goes to this breaker and one(1) goes to motor. Also there is a cermanic switch to the left of start switch that ohm meter showed no good and the wires from it goes to the timer and one of them leaves timber and goes to heat element. Was told by ge person that sales and services dryers that start switch should work with belt off motor ,but don't see how this is possible. He also said if no break in heat wires then heat element shoud be good. All other switches that I tested(like thermostats, etc. tested good) Just need to get heat element to work so would very much appreciate any help. Hi Jack, The first thing I would do is check for 240 VAC to the dryer. The motor and the timer require 120 VAC only while the heating element needs 240 VAC. Have you removed wires from the thermostats before test them for continuity? Have you tested the heating element for continuity?
