My wife says the maytag top loading washer smelled like something was burning, now it won't drain or spin--or agitate. Thinking it could have been a belt, I removed the front panel (front and 2 sides GE style) and discovered the washer is direct drive. Is the likely culprit the motor or clutch, or is it more likely to be some sort of switch?

A model number would be helpful.
