I have tried every sort of way to get the wash impeller screw off but it is on tight. I am afraid of damaging the wash impeller as I try to get it off. I have a Whirlpool GU980CGQ3. The unit is 9 years old so I am not going to drop huge money into a fix since I am at the tale end of it's life.

There are no other ways to check it. I did not understand why you went to the impeller. It has nothing to do with the drain problem. It was not until you sent the one with the front door assembly that I realized that it was right behind the access panel :o Cleaned the valve and did a quick rinse. Drained fine. Thanks Gene!!
