Have A Hotpoint Dryer - Mod.# Nwsr483eb3ww That Won't Start Up...replaced Timer....checked Door Switch With Meter..seems To Be Ok...problem Started When I Was Replacing Felt And Belt ....had Back Panel Opened ( Where Switch Wires Connect To Switches ) And Inadvertenly Shorted Brown Wire Going To Timer Out On Back Panel And On Top Of Timer At The Same Time. Figured It Was Timer - So I Replaced That...still Won't Start Up...any Help ????? Could It Be The Resistor " Ap2044425 "??? How Can I Check To See If It Was Shorted Using A Meter??what Should The Value Be ??

I hope you will never ever work with any appliance which is still under power. The first thing I would do is check for continuity the thermal fuse (#507 on the diagram). - The thermal fuse Part number: AP2042565

Did you check the circuit breakers and the voltage to the dryer?

LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I OPEN DOOR..SO I FIGURED POWER WAS GOOD - BUT I RESET BREAKER JUST TO MAKE SURE...STILL NO GOOD. I AM INCLINED TO THINK ONE OF THREE THINGS IS BAD. 1)START SWITCH 2)DOOR SWITCH OR 3) THE RESISTOR UP ON THE TOP CONTROL PANEL. DOES THE POWER TO RUN THE DRYER MOTOR COME OFF THE DOOR SWITCH ? I HAVE 120V GOING TO DOOR SWITCH (CHECKED WITH METER). AS A TEST - IF I USED A JUMPER WIRE TO JUMP THE POWER -120V GOING TO THE DOOR SWITCH - TO THE BROWN WIRE COMING OFF THE DOOR SWITCH THAT GOES TO THE MOTOR, THUS BYPASSING SWITCH - SHOULD THE MOTOR START ?

Paul,
Did you see the wiring sheet inside the control panel?
If you found it, can you post it here?
Gene.

This is exactly what I needed. Check the idler spring switch (#803 on the diagram) and the belt. Post the results. - The switch Part number: AP3994765
