The dryer stops when the start button is released.
Timer latching circuit, maybe?

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for General Electric NVLR333EV0WW Electric dryer | AppliancePartsPros.com

Getting info on Hotpoint (GE) is difficult as they like to keep everything a secret.
Following are a couple example wiring diagram.
http://www.applianceaid.com/diagrams.html
Check in your control console they often put one in there.

If you look at # 4 you will see 2 parts in the start switch latching circuit.

The belt switch and one of the centrifugal switches on the motor.
I would start by checking the wiring and the belt switch.
The centrifugal switch is activated when the motor gets close to operating speed. Could be that it is just clogged solid with lint.
If you have heat when it does run then you know the mechanical centrifugal mechanism is the motor is OK as the second switch connect in the heater.
If the switch is toast you will need a new motor.
