Hi Gene -

I am starting to run tests and am coming up with "check the motor thermal cut out" - not really sure where to locate/test this. Please let me know when you have a moment.

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

Sorry for the delay.

Can you post the tech sheet? The best way is to scan it and attach it to your reply.

Gene.

Gene -

Attached are all diagrams for my model. I have tested, and retested the motor thermal cutoff, timer switch, etc. and am totally stuck. I'm not giving up, but sure would like to buy a part and fix this pup!

Thanks for your help,

David

David,

Post the results of all tests you've performed.

On the tech sheet (Early Gallery), page 1, results as follows..

#1 Drain pump runs
#2 Motor does not run
#3 Meter reads zero; motor thermal cut out zero
#4 Meter reads zero.

This is about as far as I got - except for these tests:

Motor pin 7 to 4 pin on 4 plug = .130-.160
Motor pin 8 to 4 pin on 4 plug = .000

Sorry for the delay.

How did you check in 2/ - did you measure voltage or resistance?

If there is zero Ohms, then the problem is a bad speed control board.

- The speed control board Part number: AP2107536
Part number: AP2107536

Thanks Gene.

I have a tech here now. He has replaced the door switch and that did not solve the problem. It seems maybe he wasn't that good at testing as I told him to test the thermal motor cutout

Maybe there is no contact at 11 to 11a - the timer switch? The tech is coming back tomorrow (Sat). Why don't you just come out here and fix it Gene? (I'm kidding)

I'll be glad to help you out there if you pay the trip charge :).

If the drain pump runs then there is nothing wrong with the door switch.

It seems to me like the problem is a bad speed control board, especially because the motor thermal cut out tests OK.

It's easy to check the timer in accordance with the diagrams on page 2 of the Tech sheet you posted to excluded it from the list of suspects.

Thanks again for your help. I think I've been pushed over the edge and should buy a new machine. I talked to a different tech who said that the bearings go out on these machines after about 10 years, and my machine has a build date of 1/99.

The SCB is approx $300 and as much as I'd love to keep this machine, I'm just not convinced it's a wise move.
