When I enter the model number it comes up as a Whirlpool. I assume Kitchen Aid is a subsidiary (or similar) to Whirlpool?

The washer was working fine until my daughter did an exceptionally large load of clothes. During spinning of that load there was some imbalance and she stopped the washer and tried to redistribute the clothes.

Now the washer fills but doesn't agitate. I took a look underneath and there appears to be some oil on the outside of the transmission. I haven't taken the machine apart yet.

Right now I'm trying to get an feel for whether it is worth trying to diagnose the problem and repair the washer or if it makes more sense to put the money into a new washer. If it's worth working on this machine, what should I look at first?

Thanks.

Here's your gearcase. A pro can have it replaced in about an hour to an hour and a half. It is reasonably priced. Given the age of your machine, you may want to think hard before deciding to repair: As the machine approaches 15 years, parts become increasingly more difficult to find.

Thanks. I assumed that the oil was indicative of a problem with the transmission. I'd hoped that perhaps all it need was a coupler or something relatively inexpensive.
