freezer occasionally goes up to +50°F, but I only see that once every few days. Mostly it stays -10 to -20.

The frig stays in the +30 to +40° F and never gets warmer. Now i only have one thermometer, so i cant check them both at the same time.

GE GTS18GBSDRWW

ideas what is wrong and how to test?

ice is forming in the inside of walls and shelf in freezer.

fan in freezer blows cold air and is on most of the time. I took the fan housing off and nothing else there. BTW I unplugged the fridge and 4 hours later opened the freezer and all the ice was still cold and dry. I then left the door open and within 3 minutes the ice was melting and dripping.

removed back plate freezer. watched as it went into defrost. 20 minutes later the heater was still red and it was 55°F in there. Sometime later heater turned off, fan went on and it started cooling again.

cut thermostat def WR50X10073 out of circuit and heater turns off. Thermostat def WR50X10073 reads 1.8meg ohms at room temperature.

replaced defrost thermostat. Less then 12 hours after plugging fridge back in, ice is forming in the freezer compartment on shelves, ceiling, and back wall. now what?

this fridge has been working fine for several years, then all of a sudden, it's malfunctioning. The thermostat tested bad, but replacing it, did not help. Ice on back wall, shelves, top, and now side walls is getting worse.
