First (outlet configuration) "D" shaped slot is ground (green or bare wire) "L" shaped slot is neutral (White wire) Right vertical slot is L1 (black wire) Left vertical slot is L2 (Red wire). From the L shaped slot to each vertical slot you should read 120 VAC. From right to left vertical slot, you should read 240 VAC. Were it me, I would also do the same checks from the "D" shaped slot, or pull the outlet and varify it is wired correctly. Sounds like you've got a loose connection or crossed wires(same source) somewhere and you're loosing one of your hot legs, under a load, when power is being used by a component. Good Luck, :) :) :)

I did all the voltage checks from neutral prong to vertical L and R 120v. and from ground prong to vertical L and vertical R 120v. and vertical L to vertical R 240v. The dryer worked fine for two and a half years and a month ago it would just stop working like no power was going to it. I would check the breaker and it wouldn't be tripped. I would reset the breaker for the hell of it and it worked again for a week or so. Now, it stopped working for good. any idea what happened? Thanks spike27

You're loosing a hot leg under a load, You've got a loose connection or a weak wire in your power supply wires to the outlet from the breaker box. You're going to need an electrician to check the wiring and circuit. Good Luck, :) :) :)
