My dryer used to have an intermittent squeal as of yesterday the drum won't turn at all. I found the motor this afternoon and there is a pulley wheel that spins when I turn it on. The belt that fits around the drum doesn't appear broken. There is also a nylon wheel that the belt goes around this is attached by a metal plate and a spring. When I move this plate to touch the drum (which is how I think it's supposed to work) nothing happens. Can anyone help me

The idler wheel is there to keep some tension on the belt so it will grip the drum.It sounds like your drum may be jammed. Try turning it in the correct direction, it should turn fairly easily. Here is a good site with lots of info on basic dryer repair. http://www.applianceaid.com/dryers.html |
