My dishwasher has started to make a extermely annoying whirling noise during the wash cycles. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong as it is hard to trouble shoot as the noise stops once the door is opened?

I have cleaned the chopper area, found a piece of hard plastic, thought I found the problem. Started the dishwasher and it sounded better but was still had the noise. Ran a load last night while I was home alone, annoying, but just before it went into the drying cycle, it sounded as if the noise was "surging". Any Ideas?

Have you checked how the chopper engages the pump impeller?

Gene, thanks for trying to help. No, I have not checked the engagement at all. How can I do that? I am pretty handy as long as some guides me the first time.

Remove the chopper and check the center part of the chopper for any damage.
If there is nothing wrong, then the noise is probably coming from the motor.

Gene, Thanks again for your help. I removed the chopper assembly and started the dishwasher up. The noise was still there. So when all is said and done, I guess my next step is to order a new motor. All sounded normal while tub was filling up, one it started to wash, the noise was instant. After I replace the motor, I will do another post and with fingers crossed, all will be quiet. Roger
