Unhappy whirlpool dishwasher
Model Number: DU1050   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

I don't know why only the dishes on lower rack cleaned but not the upper rack. I already checked all the spray arms, they are not clogged.
Any idea?

Most likely the problem is a foreign objects inside the pump chopper and the pump inlet protector, causing not enough pressure in the wash system.

Remove the top cover and the inlet protector cover and clean everything.

Default whirlpool washer not cleaning upper rack dishes

There are 3 screws at the bottom I already unscrewed. I have no clue how to take them apart.

You can go to applianceaid.com to get info. Look for a half round pump housing cover, remove screw and pry off, you will find the screen in there.

Remove the upper dish rack.
Remove the water feeding tube for the upper spray arm.
Remove 4 screws (#3 on the break down diagram) holding the top cover (#1 on the break down diagram).
Remove the inlet protector (#8 on the break down diagram) holding by the tab on the right side.
Check the chopper (#6 on the break down diagram) for any clog.
Clean all debris and assemble in the reverse order.

Just looked at one of these today, when you put the chopper back in, make sure it engages the motor impeller, if not, it is worn out and you will have to get a new one. Also, the drain pump and main pump alternate on and off to back flush the screen: a check valve allows this.
The check valve is on the right side of the chopper, a black thing stuck in the housing.
Check valve P# 8268375; chopper assy. P# 8268383

Don't count your blessings yet: If your chopper fails in the future, you will need to pull the dishwasher and replace the pump impeller.
