the screws for the cover on my Whirlpool GU2500 sre not the slotted type shown in the diagram but some sort of hex type. I couldn't find an allen wrench to fit. Any idea what type of tool is needed?

You will need to buy a set of torx bits for these.

I have a Kenmore model 66517514200 and I think the Chopper is the problem. However, I can't get the inlet protector off to get to the chopper. I removed 2 screws and can't see any others. It will not budge and I don't want to damage the part trying.

Can someone help with this? Thanks.

Rotate the screw-end of the protector upward to remove the part and expose the chopper assembly.

I use a flat bladed screw driver to pry on the right side of the half round chopper housing, eventually it will work loose. Usually a build up of soap residue makes it stick. If the chopper screen is clogged, you will need a new chopper and check valve in the bottom of the housing.

The check valve is on the right side of the chopper, a black thing stuck in the housing.

Hello all I was following this procedure and found a part 8268297 it is a small white plastic coneshapped item. I'm not sure where it came from I was wiping out the bottom and found it. I think it may have fell from the top where the upper water feed is. Help! I don't want to put back together with extra parts.

thanks:eek:

Never mind i found it it does go in the upper water feed i think it is a nozzle. Putting the chopper back in and getting it to engage the impeller is a bear.

I put it back together and it still does not work. What is the next step? the chopper had scum on it but turned as did the impeller. The check valve looked ok it was intact I don't know if the rubber gets stretched out over time. Should those to things be replaced or is there something else to look at?

Thanks

What was the original problem, no water pressure? If so, you might have a pump motor running backwards!
