The heat in my gas dryer lights up, goes out, lights up, goes out. It does not stay on long enough to heat anything, just uses up gas. I have looked at the troubleshooting guides and nothing helps. Any ideas? Or is this just not the way the dryer should work?

The flame normally should cycle on and off, but it should stay on for about 50-60 seconds. If it stays on for a very short time, you may want to make sure the vent line is clear all the way through the vent outlet and all air ducts inside the dryer are clean.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for MAYTAG NGD7500VW0 GAS DRYER | AppliancePartsPros.com

Thanks Gene, I will do that right away. I did check the vent hose and it is not crimped, but I will disconnect it and look inside. Again, thanks!! Karina

Try running the dryer with vent disconnected for a short time to see if that helps. By doing this you completely remove the venting from the equation. Make sure you have plenty of fresh air in the room since this is a gas dryer so you dont get CO poisoning.
