The dryer will start but shuts off in 10 seconds. I removed the belt to see if the drum was putting any drag on the motor. The motor spins freeely by hand, but when starting it runs then stops in 10 seconds.

The motor is pulling high amperage and over load is opening. Could be the age of motor or motor needs a good cleaning.

Sounds like a stuck centrifical switch on the motor. Check for motor high current like over 10 amps. Callappliancepartspros, they may have one for your dryer.
