our GE washer has leaked all over the laundry room and the tub seems loose. Could the water pump need to be replaced or what should we try first?

Take off the front cover by inserting a screwdriver in the gap between the top and front near the edges to release the clips that hold the front panel on.

You should be able to see the source of the leak, but if not start up the machine with the front panel off and you should be able to determine where the problem is.

With luck it will only be a hose connection or broken hose. It is probably not the pump.

Two common problems for GE's are as follows:

1) Hose from outter tub to pressure switch can get a clogged.

a stiff wire (metal hangor or long nail) can remove the clog.

2) Bad Pressure Swtch (Load Size Switch).

Remove hose from outter tub and blow in it you should hear the switch click as you blow and let the air out.

both problems can cause the washer to over fill.
