My washing machine, I can't find the model # any where on it but it's a 2SP-8CY, Heavy duty, super cap. 1/2 HP motor, ...is acting strange. It will fill with water on certain cycles, will wash on certain cycles, then won't drain. Spins in certain cycles and I have to repeat that process to rinse again. I have to spin it a couple of times at least as it's only draining while spinning. I see the switch moving like it should be cycling but it's not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! I found the model number after all. It is TAWS700BNO.

Hi Trina

Your problem is somewhat of a puzzler. Let's start with the basics. The two most common problems on your type of machine are

1. Defective lid switch - This switch turns off and on when you raise and lower the lid during operation. It is a safety switch designed to stop the machine when you raise the lid. Obviously if it is defective it can stop the operation even when you are not raising the lid.

2. Failing motor coupler. You have a direct drive machine, and the motor connects to the transmission via a rubber coupling. If this starts to fail you could get symptons like you described. The easiest diagnosis here it to pull out the machine and look at the floor. If you have black rubber shavings and/or small bits of white plastic this is your problem. Unfortunately not having these does not mean this is not your problem.

If you are not experienced in taking off the cabinet on this type of machine, watch this You Tube video.

First see if the lid switch is the problem by jumping the switch, but only do this to test the switch. Operate the machine long enough to see if this fixes the problem but do not operate the machine in this manner. Remember, when you do this you are overriding a safety device!

If this is not the problem, inspect your coupling.

If neither of these are your problem, please post, with any further details you might have and let's see what else we can suggest.

Good luck

It was neither the coupling nor the lid. Our next guess might be the timer as we took it apart and we see part of it moving and not engaging. So, we will replace that and see if that takes care of it. It spins fine, drains while spinning, but won't cycle the way it's suppose too.

Sorry it turned out to be an expensive part.

Please let us know if that fixes it.

Thanks and good luck
