My dryer has a push knob switch and the other day I pushed the knob in to turn it on and it would not start. The light on the iinside of the dryer is still working, so I knows it's getting some power.

Did it make any noise? Did you check the circuit breakers for the dryer?

The model number you posted does not come up. Verify and repost it.

Gene.

the model came up with no problem for me!! it is most likely the thermal fuse kit. the part# is la-1053. it is located on the right side if the element housing. just follow the 2 white wires. tom applianceeducator.com - parts

Here is your parts breakdown includes wiring diagrams
Model Search

Note the wire on the right side of the MOTOR CENTrifugal Switch goes to L2.
It is just cut off on the diagram.

Your circuit path to start the motor is NEUTRAL , THERMAL FUSE , DOOR SWITCH C/NO , MOTOR's Run and AUX windings , MOMENTARY PUSH TO START switch , TIMER contacts M/L , L1

Fuse should be OK because the light works. This does not mean that the door contacts close when the door closes. Try manually closing it. Note also could be the contacts in the switch may be blown.

I would unplug the unit and use a meter to check the components.

If you do not have one I would suggest you purchase one. You can get a decent digital multimeter for under $20.00. You do not need fancy though it is nice if the leads are a couple feet long.
If it saves ordering one unnecessary part it has paid for itself and you end up owning a useful tool.
Most places will not let you return electrical parts so if you order it, you own it.
A couple things to watch when measuring ohms and continuity
1. Always remove power from the machine otherwise you could blow your meter.
2. Always disconnect at least one side of any device you are checking. This eliminates the possibility of measuring an alternate/parallel circuit path.
3. When checking for closed contacts and continuity use the lowest scale (Usually 200 ohms). Then try higher scales. This scale is 0 to 200 ohms so if the device you are measuring is 300 ohms this scale would show an open circuit which it is not, you are just measuring outside the scale's dynamic range.

There is a good STICKY at the start of this forum about it's use.

Denman, do you find it odd, how on this site people don't get back to us, like they did on the Parts Select site. Tom

Yes some what but do get some replies and even the odd thank you.

If I had noticed that your post was back on the 25th I probably would not have bothered with this one, if it is a couple days old, it is most likely dead.
