A couple weeks ago my refrigerator/freezer stopped working. It was not running at all. After cleaning the coils and verifying that the coils in the back of the freezer were not frosted up I assumed the worst, compressor failure. After some poking around I figured out that if I slid the thermostat to a colder setting, the compressor would kick in and cool the unit. Later , the unit would fail to kick in again unless I rapped on the thermostat area, Than it would run again. So I figured I had found my problem and ordered and installed the temp. control assembly. The unit kicked in as it should, A day or two later the unit would not kick in again unless I rapped on the thermostat again, The wire connections all seem OK, How likely is it that I received a faulty thermostat? Is there something else wrong causing the thermostat to fail. What else can I check? I hear alot of talk about the defrost control board on this model, Could that be the culprit, Can I test or bypass this to verify. Any help would be appreciated.

I would remove the control panel cover and pull out the adaptive defrost board and tap on it to confirm that is the problem.Order it here, AP4070403
