I have a kenmore HE3 dryer that won't start a cylce. When I press and hold the start button I hear a click. I have tested the door switch, motor control switch and belt switch. All test good. I recently replaced the main control board and thermistor about 6-8 months ago due to other issues. What to do now? Can a bad thermal fuse cause this? How do I test the thermal fuse? Should it read 0-2 ohms or open?

What to do now?
Cannot say, your model number is missing quite a few numbers so I cannot find any info on the unit. Please check it.

Can a bad thermal fuse cause this?
Yes, if there is a fuse in the motor's circuit. Usually there is. Often it is on the blower assembly.

How do I test the thermal fuse? Should it read 0-2 ohms or open?
Measure it with a meter. It should be 0 ohms. Be sure to unhook at least one side of it so that you do not read an alternate/parallel circuit path.

Here is the tech sheet
http://www.servicematters.com/d...0Sheet%20-%208557311.pdf

As you can see both the thermal fuse (I believe it will be on the blower) and the belt switch will stop power to the motor.

Thanks for your help! Yes the thermal fuse is open. On my way now to the parts house to get a replacement. The belt switch tested good.

Be sure to check and clean your vent system as this is the most common cause of this fuse blowing.

After replacing the thermal fuse, and putting it all back together, I now have a a bad heating element. It has burned so hot that one of the loops burned and broke off. I also noticed that the plate that holds the heating element is black and charred, with 2 heat related cracks. When a thermal fuse goes out, is it common to have to replace the heating element as well, due to overheating. A thermal fuse is designed to shut the heating system down if it reaches to high of a temperature, correct?

The opposite probably happened.

Sounds like the heating element burned out then shorted to the case and this took out the thermal fuse.

Now my door will not stay shut and keeps coming open, stopping the cycle. It seems to be the clips in the door and where they meet with the prong on the machine. It stops the cycle when the door comes open. Is there an adjustment that I can make to the alignment of the door or can the clips/prong be replaced?
