My machine stopped working about a month ago after it filled for the wash cycle. All it did wass buzz or hum. I siphoned it out and I unplugged it. Prior to this there had been a small leak right under the basket.
Today I pulled it out to see what was wrong with it. I plugged it in and turned it on with the handwash - water level, extra short cycle and it completely went throught all cycles. I then started again to wash a small load of dishtowels and it filled and started buzzing again.
I tried to run the self-test on it but all it does is buzz.
Any ideas what needs to be repaired on this machine or should I just get rid of it.
Deb

Hi Deb, Remove the rear access panel and check how hot is the motor. Most likely the problem is there. - The part number for the motor is AP3094375 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool washer Model LA9800XPW1Gene.

Thanks for the advise. I replaced the motor and the machine is now working agian on everything but jeans. The agitator stops working when the heavy jeans are in the tub. I looked under the machine at the drive system during the wash cycle and there is a pin (post) near the rear of the trany that pops up preventing the agitator from moving. How can I fix this problem. Thanks in advance, Deb James

Hi Deb, Check if the agitator cam bar (#16 on the break down diagram) is not worn out (where the plunger rivet is moving). Replace the agitator cam bar if it's bad. Replace the wig-wag (magnet control) assembly. - The part number for the wig-wag assembly is AP3123061 - The part number for the agitator cam bar is AP2905585 Gene. P.S. There is a small chance for the trany to cause this problem and if this is the issue then it becomes a very serious problem due to unavailability of the part.
