Hello, my Whirlpool washer fills with water and then won't agitate. It makes a low humming noise and you can smell a slight electric burning smell. When I advance to control knob, it DOES pump out and spin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi.

First, please, check if the cycle speed settings are correct, try different setting. Then unplug and disassemble the washer. Take the drain pump off and see if that make a difference (be careful to not get electrocuted). If no difference disconnect the motor from the transmission and try it again. If the motor start working, you have a bad transmission, if not - ether bad motor, timer or harness between them.

Thank you.

Thank you for the reply Simon.

So, I disassembled the washer (control panel, body off of frame) and removed the pump. I then plugged it in and put the control to agitate and it started agitating. I then put the pump back on, tried it again and it still agitated. I put the washer back together and everything seems fine, but now I am not sure why it was not agitating in the first place.

The issue in the first place was that it would not agitate, but it would pump out and spin. Oh well, I gave it a good cleaning while it was apart anyways. I guess time will tell if something is going bad. :)

Hi.

I don't have a solid suggestion in your case, but I have a filling it could be a motor. It may happen again tomorrow or in six month. So...enjoy you washer:)

Thanks.

Simon.
