I have a Kenmore Elite Dryer Model# 110.73952102

It wouldn't stay running when the button was released... I did some early diagnostic and opened the control's panel to find the controller board burned where I now see they like to die if you hold the button down too long due to excessive voltage through the control board circuits. Which unless we are talking 5 seconds, was never done...
Ok, so I hunted around on the web and found a control board cheap enough that I figured what the heck... When I put the refurbished board in I still have it stopping when the button is depressed, with no beeps so it's not the temp override... I read it's likely the switch on the motor, and can't see putting another +150 in an appliance this old... so not ready to totally give up on the project, I decided to test the relays by swapping the heater and the motor control, and low and behold the motor will run for extended time... when I started smelling gas I shut it off...

Now my question before I drop any more money on a relay, when I might need a motor... With a bad heater relay, will the motor stay running? Or does it sound like this relay will hobble it back together for now?

Yes, the motor will stay running if heat relay is bad. It is excessive current, not voltage, that causes damage to the circuit board. Motor current does not go through the control board so holding the start button down to keep the motor running would not damage the board.
