Hello all, thank you in advance for your help. I appreciate it. Last time this happened we paid someone $150 and we are very low on income right now, as in we are in debt and are barely paying the utilities, so thats why I came here for help.

I have not looked up the model number, but I found a picture on the internet of my dryer, it looks exactly the same and has the same colors and has the "duet" thing on the left.

The dryer stops, then you have to start it again, happens randomly. Sometimes runs for 5 mins and stops, sometimes for 2 minutes, sometimes 30 seconds. Seems completely random. The heat seems to be working... when it was on a no heat cycle, it seemed to still do the same thing. Made sure the lint trap was clean etc, I really dont know too much about this stuff.

Need a complete model number.
Find your model number - AppliancePartsPros.com

When it stops can it be restarted right away?
The reason this is important that an overheated motor will stop the unit, re: it's internal thermal protect opens. You then have to wait for the motor to cool down so the protect resets before the unit will restart.

On air only is there still heat?

Thank you for the reply. Yes it can be restarted right away, sometimes it stops a minute after, sometimes 30 seconds after. Sometimes it runs for 10-20 minutes even if were lucky.

After it shuts off, I just go hold down the start button and it starts up again. The motor doesnt make any groaning sounds that I can hear...

The model #: YGEW9200LQ1

Here are your parts
Parts for Whirlpool YGEW9200LQ1 Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.com

See the attachments for the tech sheet.

This will likely be a pain to find.

I would try watching the unit so you can catch it when it shuts off perhaps something will indicate the cause.

Firsts I would look for a loose/bad connection in the wiring to/from the motor.
Next check that the motor is not clogged with lint.
Check that the belt, the idler and belt switch are OK.
My thoughts here is that there is something that is interrupting the power to the motor so the unit stops.

You could also try running the diagnostics to see if anything shows up.

If all OK then you could try replacing the control board.

Hmm ok, will see what we can do. When I asked my dad what he thought it was, he thought it was a thermostat thing that *thinks* the inside of the dryer is getting too hot and that triggers it to shut off when it actually isnt getting too hot. Do you know what hes talking about? What do you think it is most likely?

I think he is referring to the thermistor. It changes resistance with temperature. The control board then uses this to control the heater.
If it was the culprit the unit should have given an error code.

What do you think it is most likely?
I do not have one thing at the top of the list.
If you cannot find a bad connection in the motor circuit then it is most likely the control board.

I am also a Canuck so can sympathize.

The problem is that it does not sound like a motor overheating and it is not reproducible so will be a pain to find.

If you cannot find a bad connection then there are a couple things you could try.

In order to eliminate the belt switch you could short the wires together.
Just be sure that they cannot short to any thing else or get caught up in a moving part.
If the problem disappears then replace the belt switch.
One thing to also check is that it is tight. if loose it could be opening every once in a while.

You could also check the control board for a cold/bad solder joint.
Most likely it will be close or at the motor relay.
Cold solder joints are often a duller silver colour and may have pin holes.
Also gently wiggle the components while looking at the solder side of the board to see if the part's leg moves in the solder.
A magnifying glass is a useful tool when doing this.

Replacing the board woyuld be my last resort.
Also I would check the companies return policy.
Most places will not let you return electronic parts.

Take a look at the tech sheet I included in an earlier post.
It shows E1 as an open thermistor, it also has how to test it.
