today i was washing clothes and the washer stopped working mid rinse cycle. when i would push and pull the timer knob, it made a humming sound and would start for a few seconds, but then stop. there is water in the washer, and now there is no longer any humming sound, and it doesn't work at all. is this the timer dial that went? if so, how can i replace it?

Make sure you still have power at the outlet. Otherwise, could be the timer, lid switch or bad connection at the motor. Jump out the lid switch as per this video.

If that is not the problem, remove the cabinet and check the connections at the motor. Unplug the harness connector and check for burnt/corroded connection particularly on the gray wire and the two connections on the motor thermal overload switch. If everything checks out ok, I would replace the timer.

would i be able to tell if anything was wrong by opening the control panel? sometimes it does nothing. other times it hums and actually starts. the lid switch clicks on and off when i open the door. could it still be a problem?
