The washer went out suddenly on a heavy load. I pulled off the front and the idler pulley, bearing and pin were laying separately in the bottom. Belt OK. Looking closely at the idler pulley I can see a crack in the side. From the top I can turn the agitator CCW easily. CW requires I first turn ccw to a check and then turn CW. The tub moves with the agitator in either direction. Motor works. Is this a bad tranny?

Does this sound like a reasonable repair job? Or go for a new machine.

If a new one, any recommendations? (Having a bad back, wife needs a top load. I've looked at some reviews of newer machines and have seen a lot of bad reviews, hence thinking of trying to get a used older model.)

The plate with this info (on top of control panel) is faded out. It was made in 1993, is extra-large capacity, 3/4 hp motor. Never a problem til now.

Unfortunately without correct model number we are not able to find correct part numbers as well as break down diagrams. Guessing is not the way I would like to go.

Regarding a new washer I would recommend a top load machine made by Whirlpool without any electronics. Such washer, depends on capacity, can cost you between $350 to $500.
