Thanks denman, we bypassed the thermal cut off and it worked. Now, what else do i need to check? obviously it must have got too hot. Do you suggest just cleaning any extra lint and replace the cut off or do i need to check something else?

Thanks

Not sure which one you are talking about, there are 2 in this unit.
Will assume it is the one on the blower. It kills power to the motor the following also applies to the other one (just shuts off the heating element), it has more things to check as it is further back in the circuit.

The most common cause of it blowing is a dirty vent system or the outside vent louvers are not opening.

Could also be that the blower wheel has come loose from the motor or it is clogged up with lint.

On a rare occasion the cycling thermostat's contacts are welded together.
Also check your lint filter, if you use too much fabric softener it can coat the screen and drastically reduce air flow. If coated just clean it with soap and water.
