Use the Sticky at the top of the page on direct drive brakes and this video

YouTube - Washing Machine Clutch Band and Lining Repair Kit Replacement (part #285790)

to check out and change the clutch and check the brakes.

From the description, might be a burnt wire someplace, a bad timer,or a bad motor, this assumes the washer acts up in agitate also.
I would pull the cover off the timer and check for bad contacts.

I checked terminal connections throughout my Whirlpool LXR9445JQO and found no problems. I put a new $100 timer in and it still fails mid-cycle. Please advise.

Do the tranny coupler test to check the brakes in my sticky "Replacing direct drive washer brake shoes".
