replace timer unit. and still will not start. when I open door, light does not come on. When turning the timer setting can hear it humming when in either of the time modes. Is this a door switch/ a thermal fuse or something else?

Since you can hear the timer moving (Confirm this by watching to see dial movement), and no light, I would start by checking the light bulb. If the bulb is good, check the door switch for disconnected wire(s) and for continuity. Let us know what you find.
