My oven will not light when I turn it on, I do not smell gas so I was wondering if it was the T-Stat for the oven?

There are two different kind of the oven ignition for the same model number shown.
Open the broiler door and look inside to find if there is a standing pilot or an oven glow coil igniter.
Post your findings, please.

Yes I already checked for the pilot light, it is on. I did not smell any gas when I turned the knob, so I figured no signal was getting to the valve or T-Stat.

I need you to monitor the pilot light while you turn the thermostat "on" to see if the pilot light will extend.
Post the result.

Yes the flame does extend when I turn it on, I checked with an Appliance co. and they said it could be the safety valve. They told me to disconnect the gas line and tap on the valve to see if it loosens up any sediment and reconnect it and try to see if it lights, is this safe?

Yes you are right, with the gas off. Do you think this could be the problem?

I do not think it was a good idea. The gas safety valve is a safety devise and it's better not to play with it. Just replace the gas safety valve and get back in business. - The part number for the gas safety valve is AP380403Good luck. Gene.

I have the same problem. I have a double oven old Hotpoint model RGH558U. The top oven and range burners all work properly. The bottom oven has stopped working. The pilot light is lit but there seems to be no gas going to the burner pipe?

Hi kenjg
Unfortunately all of the parts for the lower oven ignition system are no longer available.
