Hi,

I just checked the temp in my freezer and it sits at 25 degrees, which is probably not low enough. I hear the compressor running, so it should be OK.
Can someone give me some hints where to start looking?
Thanks,
Ed

Make sure the evaporator fan (inside the freezer behind the back cover) and the condenser fan (bottom of unit in back by compressor) are both running when the compressor is running. Check to make sure your condenser coils (under/behind unit) are clean, free of pet hair/dust and can have air moved over them freely. Let us know what you find when you check those items please. Thanks!

Thanks for the fast response.
Both fans run and the coils seem to be pretty clean. In the meantime the temp has been going lower, it's at about 10 degrees now. I'll watch it until tomorrow morning.
Thanks,
Ed

Last night it was down to Zero but this morning it's back up to 15 degrees. It seems to be fluctuating quite a bit.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ed

Sounds like an airflow issue to me. Take a look at the back wall of the freezer and see if there is any visible frost. If there is, even just a little, take it apart and pull the back cover off to expose the evaporator. See if it's all plugged up with frost. If it is, manually advance the defrost timer until it clicks into defrost and compressor shuts off. Wait a few minutes and see if it starts thawing the frost around the heater on the evaporator. If it does, you need a new defrost timer. If it does not, you will need to ohm out the defrost t-stat and heater to determine which is no good. Either way, after you determine the issue, you can thaw the frost and unit will work fine for a week or so until you get parts in it.

I had the unit off the wall yesterday and there was no frost on the back wall at all. But I guess I could open that back wall and check things.

Just checked the back wall again. No frost and it can't be taken off anyway.
There are only two lengthy pieces of metal but they are just covering a bunch of cables. No evaporator to expose.

You did not get the previous advice right. cbmserviceguy meant the rear wall inside the freezer. Please, check this wall and post the results.

Gene is correct. I mean to check inside the freezer at the very back. If there is a defrost problem the evaporator will be solid with frost and air will not be able to properly circulate. This would cause the issues you are describing. Let us know what you find. I'll try and pop on later and see what you came up with.
