When knob is pulled out to start a load the tub fills up with water but then it just sits there. There is no noise, no action at all. If I move the knob to spin it will empty the water out but nothing more. I followed the t/s procedures on the tech sheet and everything appears to ck good. But the tech sheet mentions checking the timer line sw but doesnt tell me how to ck it.

Gene, the following are the results of the t/s that you instructed me to do. Resistance between 1/2 2/3 & 3/1 all were 2.8 Voltage between 5/6 was 125 Voltage between 5 and 1,2,6,9,&10 was 0 If as your chart shows I need a new timer how does that knob come off. I have tried everything short of breaking it and I cant seem to get it off. If you cant tell I am not extremley proficiant at the use of a volt meter. When I did the check for the 10 pin voltage I still had the knob set for heavy load and pulled out, was that right? And according to my tech sheet it looks like pin #7is empty, is that correct? There are no loose wires in the area but I just wanted to confim that so I know that I am on the right pins when doing the ck.

Rodney, Your diagnosis looks correct. In order to remove the timer knob push the knob in and turn it CCW. - The timer Part number: AP3214642

Gene, Help! I changed the timer and it did not fix the washer ( doing the same thing ). However, when I rechecked the voltage readings between 5 and 2,6,10 now I get 120 volts with nearly 0 on 1 & 9. So in other words now it indicates that the speed control is bad.

Rodney, It is very rare for both such parts to be bad together but it happens. Try to put the old timer back after you replace the speed control. If it would work and you ordered the timer from Appliance Parts Pros, you still can return it even if it was installed. - The speed control board Part number: AP3967975
