Hi wee mac The first thing I would check is condition of the condenser coil. If it's blocked with lint, the compressor will overheat and would not perform properly. In most cases cleaning could help to eliminate the problem. Remove the front and the rear panels and clean the condenser coil from any lint and dust. Wait about 24 hours to see if it works. If this is not an issue then the cooling system could be low on Freon or the compressor has low capacity. To fix it you have to call a certified technician and it is going to be pretty expensive. If your fridge is very old it is probably not efficient and it's not worth to fix it. It is possible your local utility company has a reimbursement program to utilize such old refrigerator. - For the future references here are the break down diagrams for the Kitchen Aid refrigerator Model KBRS22KGWH0Good luck.
