I have a gas oven with an electronic igniter. When you set the oven temp., it goes through a timeout process to preheat the oven. The oven would usually light after 1 or 2 arcs from the igniter, but as of late even if it lights, the igniter will continue to arc 3 or 4 more times like it is trying to light and then the oven will shut off. This occurs throughout the 10 or 15 min. timeout process. When the oven preheat process finishes you can turn it off and reset the oven temp. and it will usually light and stay lit and come up to temp. and cycle normally. What gives? Is it a bad igniter or spark controler or what? It gets aggrivating having to start the oven twice everytime.

Most likely the cause of intermittent ignition is poor performance of the bake burner and/or igniter. In order to correct this problem Whirlpool designed new improved burner/igniter kit which should be installed in your oven. - The part number for the bake burner/igniter kit is AP3598752 Gene.
