Instead of whole cubes, semi-crushed ice is dispensed from the bin (bucket) of my side-by-side refrigerator ice maker. There is a loud crushing noise as the cubes are reduced to 1/2 to 3/4 inch pieces.
The 'crushed ice' and 'water' choices work properly with no undue noise. The ice maker itself works properly, making whole cubes. The auger in the bin works properly. It is almost like the mechanism in the front of the bin is stuck halfway between whole cubes and crushed ice.
Thinking ice might be jammed in the front of the bin, I removed the bin long enough to allow any jammed ice to melt, the bin to drain and dry out completely. No help.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Fixed! The trapdoor in the bin that opens/closes for cubes/crushed ice had slipped past the little pegs and was locked. Forcing it back solved the problem. Now opens for cubes, closes for crushed. Will probably happen again but it is a simple fix.
