I have a GE side by side refrigerator Model #GSS25XSRD taht is about two years old on a daily basis both the frig and the freezer keep going from the normal temperature range to both getting too warm???? Im thinking it could be a thermostat of some sort or a defrost timmer??? any Ideas ??? I have unpluged it and let it defrost and also cleaned the coils but this has done nothing to correct the problem ???

I just need some more info to help you, Is there heavy frost on the back wall of the freezer? Does the display dim when you try to get ice or water? Is the freezer fan running (open freezer door and push the light switch in)? is the condenser fan running?

GE Refrigerator: there is no frost, no light dimming, and freezer fan appears to be running. But the freezer is up to 30 degrees and refrig is over 50.

The condenser fan is running. My I also mention this frig is in may warm garage in south west florida, and it is only about a year or so old.

ceh, If the temperature in the garage goes above 100°F, your refrigerator will never work properly. According to the manufacturer installation instructions (page 21) the temperature outside refrigerator suppose to be within 60°F - 100°F range for good performance. Gene.

My garage is well insulated and for sure does not get that hot. It has worked fine for the last 12 months or so.It is only within the last week that it has gone from holding it's temp to the frig being at 60 degrees and the freezer being at 30 degrees. and on occasion the temp will go back down to where they should be???????:(

Hi Chris,
It's pretty hard to diagnose such problem due to it's intermittence.
Monitor the refrigerator and at the time when the temperature will go up, remove the rear cover and check if the compressor is running. In order to get the correct information for all of the questions asked by abadfish66 you have to check these fans and frost while the fridge is not performing properly. Maybe it'll help to pinpoint the problem.
