When I close door and turn timer dial I get a buzzing noise and dryer will not start when start switch is pushed

Given the age of your dryer this sounds like the motor. Get someone to help you and have that person push the start switch while you turn the drum and press in the door switch.

If it starts thats a pretty good indication that the motor will need to be replaced.
