My washer will begin any cycle but when it gets to the rinse cycle it spins and then adds the water to begin the rinse. The problem is that it will not spin to wring out the clothes for the rinse cycle. This happens not only for the normal wash but all of the other categories of wash i.e. delicate, etc. At first I thought something was stuck in the hose in which it was and I got it out but still no spin for the rinse cycle. The water will not drain and wring the clothes out. Now it is starting to make a clicking noise when I try it again. What could be preventing it from spinning iand draining during the rinse cycle?

Between the tranny and the motor on this very easy to fix whirlpool washer is this dude:APP-meters-digital-1.gif To get to this part you must remove the case. After that the pump comes off then the motor ,then your problem will be revealed.

APP-meters-analog-2.gif Remove the screws holding down the control panel, flip up the controls and unplug the lid switch. Pop the S-clips and tip the case forward. It comes right off. Got a screw driver and a pair of pliers? That's just about all the tools you need.

I replaced the drive coupling and it still will not spin during the rinse cycle. It starts to spin but then it stops and starts humming. Could it be the lid switch?

Remove the motor and pump and turn the tranny coupler clockwise. If hard to turn the coupler, you either have stuck brake shoes, or something stuck in the tub.
If it turns ok, you have something stuck in the tub.
If it is stuck, go to my article page 5 of General talk section "replacing direct drive washer brake shoes".

try running the motor while it is removed from the tranny. check the pump and make sure it ain't something in it. I found a bikini top and a coin and sand(I live near the beach) in them pumps.
