Freezer coils freezing up. Checked heater and it is OK. Is timer located under housing with lights. If so how do I remove housing and check timer?

No I didn't. How do you check? For me to get at connections, I have to melt all the ice.

Most common problem in such situation is a bad defrost thermostat. The defrost timer is the last failure suspect. I would replace the defrost thermostat even without testing it, especially because the part is less than $15 and there is a pretty good chance it will solve the problem. - The part number for the defrost thermostat is AP3475238 Gene.
