My dryer cuts on and there is heat but it will only run for about 5 minutes then it cuts off, I can wait a couple of minutes then I can turn it back on but the same thing happens.

It is possible that there is a lint build up obstructing the air flow, or around the motor causing it to heat up, in which case the thermal protection kicks in.
Since it is a cost free solution, the first thing I would do is open it up and clean it out, particularly around the motor, around the blower and vent both inside and out.
If that does not fix it let us know and we will see what else we can come up with.
