I'm getting a lot of frost build up and want to check the defrost timer but I can't find it. Does anyone know where it is located? Our freezer seemed to work fine but the fridge would not get colder than 50 degrees. I pulled off the back panel of the freezer and found that the foam block that directs the air from the freezer to the fridge was locked up with ice. It is now working again but we are getting frost in our freezer. James

Your model number is incomplete should have alot more digits and yes model number does matter...most defrost timers are inside the top of the refrigerator on the top where the light fixture is....typically it's 4-6 1/4" screws you have to take out........to test it there's usually a slot in that cabinet which allows you to take a small screwdriver and advance the defrost timer slowly and look at the defrost heater in the back of the freezer area, force it into defrost you'll usually hear a click and you'll see the bottom of the evaporator start melting ice......if you don't you have a defrost timer or bi metal/thermistor or defrost heater problem typically

I will have to look elsewhere for the model number. That is all the sticker on the back said.

Unless you have a part number on the part you need if you don't have a complete model number you won't be able to find a part for it most likely.....Check your owners manual also but Ge series for this type should have a 13 digit alpha numeric model number. Good luck. It should be inside the fridge on the right of left or in the back of the unit.
