When I try to turn on the dryer with the starter switch (turns to the right, then back) it just humms. I took the motor plate off and the drum turns OK, not sure about the motor. Could this just be the starter switch?

On the GE's it is probably going to be the motor. Try to manually get the dryer to turn by having a friend push the start switch while you push in the door switch and manually turn the drum. BE CAREFUL!!! If it starts, you are going to need a new motor.
If you want more info and advice please post the full model number
Thanks

Thanks for your reply. To my dispay, I thought it might be the starter switch and I removed it, now I cannot put it back because two little metal bars fell out and I don't know how to put them back. If I manage to get them back in, I will try your method.
