Dryer has been working ok until few days ago- except extended drying time. Shuts off after 10-15mins, smells like burning rubber, took apart- fan area very hot, belt looks ok. We use both auto and timed settings. any suggestions would be appreciated. tina

Hi TMT

Well, it sounds like your motor is in the process of failing. It heats up, the burning smell is likely the motor overheating, and then the thermal protection on the motor shuts it down. After it cools off you can go through the same circle.

You will have to decide if you want to replace the motor and take the chance that replacement will fix it. It is not a difficult job, but it helps to have help (friend, neighbor etc) Here is the service manual.

You should try a thorough cleaning of the machine with a vac and air blower if you have one before you replace the motor. Make certain all the air passages are clear of lint and there is no lint in the cabinet.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out

Amana dryers tend to build lint up in the blower housing. You might want to take the front off, and then remove the blower housing. There are four 5/16screws holding the blower housing to the frame of the dryer. Two on each side. You might want to clean that out, and while you are there, clean the top of the motor, so it can breath. Then give it try, before you buy a new motor. Tom www.applianceeducator.com:cool:
