so, i took the aggitator out and the grinding noise sounds like it is from the trans/ face seal area. at $250 for the trans and 72 for the face seal, am i crazy to fix this? or, just replace the seal and main bearing? or...?

These models tend to leak after a repair (even when repaired by a professional. Best choice is to spend that $250 on a good used Dependable Care model, or a Whirlpool/Kenmore.
