I have a whirlpool dryer model leb6200pqo and it stopped working. I checked and the thermal fuse is bad. It says if that is bad I should replace the thermal fuse and the operating thermostat. Which one is the operating thermostat? If I by pass the thermal fuse the machine comes on but no heat. I checked the element and it is good. So does that mean I do need the operating thermostat too? Or do I need a thermal cutoff too?

It would most likely be a the thermal fuse. Do you not have a ohm meter? The operating thermostat is the 4 wire thermostat. It will most likely not be the culprit. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL LEB6200PQ0 | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a wiring diagram
https://www.servicematters.com/d...0Sheet%20-%208528187.pdf

If I by pass the thermal fuse the machine comes on but no heat.
Check that you have 240 volts at the plug.

The heater and the timer require 240 to operate. It is not uncommon to loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker.
Turn the breaker off/on slowly a couple times.

I checked the element and it is good.
I assume that you checked it with a meter.
Did you remove both wires from the heater and check between them for resistance, should be approximately 10 ohms. And also then check from each terminal to the case, to ensure you do not have a grounded element.

So does that mean I do need the operating thermostat too?
Or do I need a thermal cutoff too

Check both of these with your meter.
Both should be 0 ohms at room temperature.
Note on your operating thermostat one set of connectors are the switch contacts (0 ohms), the other set is an internal heating element used to change the temp settings of the dryer (approximately 7,000 ohms)

Since the thermal fuse blew it is important to check/clean the blower wheel and your vent system.
