When we turn the cycle control knob to automtic dry cycle and push the start button the dryer won't turn on.

When we turn the cycle control knob to timed dry we have to go to about the 40 minute mark and when the start button is pushed it might come on, it might run for a few minutes them buzz, or I might have to move the control know back and forth while pushing the start button to get the dryer to start. It then might run for a few minutes or for awhile before it buzzes and stops. Sometimes it will go to the end of the cycle.

Is my Cycle control knob/switch bad or might there be another problem?
