I have a Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator freezer, model number 596.57542791. The ice maker no longer makes ice. It runs its cycles normally, but no water comes out of the chute into the ice maker tray. The problem first occurred when we were away and the machine had not run. The flex tube and metal tube above it were filled with Ice. I defrosted the freezer and the icemaking system, but now I have the problem where no water enters the freezer. I do still get water fine out of the door dispenser.

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.
The water inlet valve on the back of the unit where the water supply comes in can have a slow leak and will cause ice to buildup and block the fill tube. Disconnect the ice maker line from the valve and watch to see if it has a slow drip. It doesn’t take much to eventually block the fill tube.
